Happy #workwearwednesday everyone! One aspect of my wardrobe that I don’t share all that often with you is work wear. Working in an office from 8-5 every day definitely causes your closet to fill up with this type of clothes fast. I am luckier than most. The corporate office I work for is a more business casual environment rather than business professional. However, business casual can be really tricky.

What is business casual anyway? When I first started as an intern at the company, I had no clue how to dress to not only be comfortable but to fit in with the rest of the corporate environment. I am sure walking in the first day wearing a pencil skirt and a blazer was strange to my coworkers, but to me that was what I was suppose to wear. The other difficult thing about business casual is how loosely interpreted it can be. There are so many do’s and don’ts when it comes to this type of attire, so it is always a good idea to consult with your company’s dress code first.

Before I get to raving on about my favorite “workwear” dress, I wanted to share my three basic tips to dressing chic in the summer while in a business casual environment.

  1. Keep It Simple: Dresses & Pencil Skirts are the perfect way to keep your look chic and appropriate while also keeping cool in the summer heat. Shoot for dresses that have a cap sleeve or shorts sleeves and skirts that are at or just slightly above knee. This will help you stay within dress code guidelines while also giving you that summer look.
  2. Think Breathable Materials:  Dresses and Skirts like these are great lightweight materials like rayon, chambray, and summer blend rather that denser heavier fabrics.
  3. Go Neutral: The best way to stay professional and chic in a business casual environment is to invest in neutral accessories. These help to tone down patterns and colors while also staying chic. Look for a great pair of nude heels or wedges  that will go with multiple outfits, while trying to avoid sandals that are to casual, especially those that go between your toes. Also try adding a lightweight neutral cardi to a tank top or dress  This can help make your look more professional while also allowing you to wear those summer styles.

Now onto this dress! The best thing about business casual is the wiggle room to utilize colors, patterns, and textures. This is one of the best ways to spice up your summer work wardrobe. I think this dress is perfect for the workplace. It has great coverage on the upper body, while still having a very feminine shape. It also is a great length, hitting just slightly above the knee.  Of course, what initially drew me to this dress was the color. It is a gorgeous color, perfect for summer and great with neutral accessories. Having a little brighter color also adds versatility to this dress. It would be great to grab drinks with friends after work, to wear to church, or even a dressier summer wedding.

I hope you found this post helpful, work wear dress codes can be so tricky so it is always best to look and ask around to find the perfect style for you. If you would like to see some options comment below or message me, I would love to pull some amazing styles for you :).
